Kebbi Pledges To Support Zauro Windstorm Victims

Kebbi State Government has promised to support the victims of windstorm in Zauro Town of Birnin Kebbi Local Government.

Addressing the victims when paid a sympathy visit to the area, the Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida Kabi said relief materials such as zinc roofing sheets, cement and other items will be given to victims so as to resettle immediately.

The incident which happened as a result of heavy windstorm, blew-off roofs and walls of over 100 houses at Zauro town in Birnin Kebbi local government area of Kebbi State destroy properties worth over millions of Naira.

The Deputy Governor, who gave the directive when he was conducted round the affected houses by representative of District Head of Zauro, Alhaji Muhammad Dikko and Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Shafi’u Abubakar Zauro described the incident as unfortunate while sympathizing with victims on behalf of the State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu.

“I have directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to hasten assessment of the affected houses and provide support within 24 hours in order to cushion their hardship” he said.

Also speaking to newsmen, the representative of District Head of Zauro, Alhaji Muhammad Dikko thanked the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala, officials from HYPADEC and SEMA for their concern.

Alhaji Muhammad Dikko further commended the Governor and his Deputy for the gesture which according to him will go a long way in cushioning the suffering of the victims. He prayed Allah for safe return of the Governor and other pilgrims from the Holy Land.

The Deputy Governor was accompanied by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, Special Advisers and SEMA officials among others.
