Bauchi Water Vendors Berate Group on call to sack BSWSC GM

By Sanusi Muhammad

Despite the ongoing efforts of Bauchi State Water and Sewage Corporation (BSWSC) under the leadership of Engr. Aminu Aliyu Gital to improve water supply in Bauchi metropolis and environs, a group under the aegis, Concerned Citizens has embarked on an exercise in futility to ridicule his reputation.

In a press statement by Bauchi Water Vendors Union spokesman Shehu Lantai Mairuwa, and made available to this medium, stated that as beneficiaries of the services of the corporation that has been supportive of their trade with steady water supply to the metropolis, “it amounts to mischief to watch a group dishing out unsubstantiated stories, twisting facts, aimed at ridiculing the reputation of the Corporation.
“We read the published story in Weekly DESERT HERALD Newspaper of 6th – 12th October that originated from the group which deserves no explanatory note as reply.
“The allegations are unfounded and should be thrown into its deserved resting place, the dust bin”.
The spokesman added that the story was a mear imagination of the initiators and lacked substance.
The ongoing road projects within some parts of the metropolis affected free flow of water supply to those areas while some beneath the ground pipes are being replaced due to rusting are some of the causes of the periodic shortage of treated water supply to some areas which the group claimed ignorance of, it added.
“The call for the sack of the General Manager can be likened to acts of blackmail possibly by detractors and should be ignored”, the statement said.
The Vendors commended the efforts of Governor Bala Muhammed towards improvement of water supply to parts of the state and appealed to him to ignore the call by the group and concentrate efforts on actualizing his mandate than diverting his attention to mischief that may rob his government of seasoned technocrats and professionals.
The vendors resolved to reduce the cost of a sachet of pure water from the day the Greater Bauchi Water Project is commissioned and we have vowed to support all candidates fielded by the ruling party in the forthcoming local government councils elections this October to prove their support for good governance that is benefitial through the Water and Sewage Corporation to them,.
