ARMY RECRUITMENT: GOVERNOR MATAWALLE EXPRESSES DISPLEASURE OVER POOR REPRESENTATION OF ZAMFARA
Zamfara State Executive Governor, Hon. Dr. Bello Matawallen has expressed his Government’s displeasure on poor representation of Zamfara Indigenes in Army recruitment when many qualified indigene languish in unemployment.
Governor Matawalle made his position known on Wednesday when he visited the Chief Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja.
The Governor appealed to the army chief to address the issue so that Zamfara Indigenes will join the Army and contribute their quota to national security and development.
Governor Matawalle said that he noticed with total dismay on how the state indigenes were denied their rights in the army recruitment as well as in other security organizations where many indigenes of the state are left out.
The Governor informed the Army chief that his administration is making all efforts to address the issue of recruiting indigenes of the state but that it cannot be achieved without the support and cooperation of the army Authorities.
Responding the Chief of Army Staff said the Nigerian army has already created recruitment officers in all the states of the federation that will be working with officials of the states during any army recruitment with a view of recruiting genuine state indigenes.
He further said that the states officials are the people responsible for identifying indigenes of their states before recruitment adding that any body discovered not from the state he claims will be disqualified even if they are at the training school.
He promised to cooperate with state governments in that direction to ensure only Indigenes of a state are being recruited.
