1. WHAT IS THE MISSION OF G-100 / THE SUMMIT?
The G-100 calls it the _“Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition”_. Their core mission is: 8f1f
– *Build a United Opposition Front*: Prevent the APC from winning again due to a divided opposition vote like in 2023
– *Create a Framework for Cooperation*: The summit theme is _“A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination”_. It’s NOT to pick a presidential candidate in one sitting
– *Establish Negotiation Mechanisms*: Set up institutions, terms and principles for how opposition parties can work together and negotiate difficult questions
– *Offer a Credible Alternative*: Show Nigerians that the opposition has _“maturity, discipline and sense of national purpose”_ instead of just criticizing government
– *Place Country First*: The first question to leaders is _“not who leads the ticket. It is what we are, together, prepared to do for this country”_ 8f1f380d36abdfc1
*Who is involved:*
Consultations have been held with 6 parties: *ADC, APM, NDC, PDP, PRP, and SDP*. Expected leaders include *Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Seyi Makinde* 8f1fe88b
2. HOW DO THEY INTEND TO DEFEAT THE “TILLING” APC?
G-100 argues a fragmented opposition _“stands no chance of defeating Tinubu”_. Their proposed approach: 5fbc
– *Single Presidential Candidate*: The main push is for all opposition parties to unite behind _one_ presidential candidate for 2027. This builds on the earlier _Ibadan Declaration_
– *Sacrifice & Compromise*: Leaders must _“shelve personal ambitions”_ and place national interest above individual calculations
– *5 Specialized Working Groups*: One of the proposals before the summit is to create 5 working groups to handle cooperation details
– *National Council of Opposition Leaders*: A body where _“every candidate’s ambition shall be summoned before the bar of patriotism”_
– *Deeper Collaboration with Minority Caucus*: The House Minority Caucus has met with G-100 to _“deepen collaboration and play a more active role in mobilising opposition forces”_ 8f1fde65649236abc2a5
3. THE CHALLENGE THEY FACE
– *Competing Ambitions*: Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, Amaechi all have presidential ambitions and restless support bases
– *Internal Divisions*: Even within parties there are splits. PDP has a faction supporting Tinubu. Obi and Kwankwaso previously withdrew from an ADC-led coalition
– *No Single Candidate Yet*: No formal coalition structure or candidate has emerged 380d8f1fde65
Bottom line:
G-100’s mission is not to anoint someone today, but to force opposition leaders to agree on _rules of engagement_ so they can present one united candidate and structure to challenge President Bola Tinubu and APC in 2027. They believe only unity can stop _“the continued dominance of the APC”_.
