Gov Zulum appoints new SSG, four persons as Media Aides

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has announced his first appointments. The governor has approved the appointment of a former Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Usman Jidda Shuwa to substantive position of the new SSG. Mr. Shuwa was appointed as the SSG by former Governor Kashim Shettima but he was later removed by the ex-governor. On removal Mr. Shettima appointed the Permanent Secretary at the Government House who is also the most senior perm sec, Mohammed Gazali as the acting SSG. Mr. Gazali served in that active capacity until when Governor Zulum decided to bring back the former SSG, Jidda Shuwa.

Borno under Zulum will for the first time have four media aides. Pundits averred that there may be duplication of responsibilities for the media aides. The four media aides includes ex-governor Shettima’s Special Adviser on Media, Isa Gusau who is now appointed as the Senior Adviser on Public Relations and Strategy while Baba Asheik Abdullahi is the new Senior Special Assistant on Media. Governor Zulum has also approved the appointment of Tanimu Adam Tahir as the Special Assistant on Media while AbdulRahman Ahmed Bundi is now the Special Assistant on New Media.

How Governor Zulum will utilise the four media aides and makes them active and effective will be interesting to see. What remains clear for now is that the new governor has started very well and that there is indeed a degree of independence and departure between his policies and style of governance and that of his boss, Senator Kashim Shettima.
