GOVERNOR MATAWALLE SIGNS $1B MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH AFREXIMBANK
Zamfara State Governor, Hon Dr.Bello Mohammed has signed a 1 billion US dollars Memorandum of Understanding with the Afreximbank for the economic revitalization of the State.
The Signing ceremony was held today, 27th July,2019 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Governor Matawalle signed the MoU documents on behalf of Zamfara State Government while President of the Afreximbank, Dr. Benedict Okey Orama signed on behalf of his Bank.
Governor Matawalle expressed his appreciation to the Bank for the support to the state and his administration a more enabling environment that will facilitates trade and industrialization of the state.
He added that the MoU will cover areas of Solid Minerals, Agriculture, Textile development, Healthcare, airport construction and Power Generation.
Matawalle assured of his administration’s determination to facilitate the use all the legal steps to back the agreement.
He further said that Zamfara State Government will ensure strict adherence to the underlining conditions stipulated in the agreement with diligence, due process, transparency and accountability the watchwords guiding the process.
He maintained that if the said economic sectors were improved, the state internal revenue would improve significantly and more job opportunities would be created to cater for the state unemployed teeming youths.
The governor further explained that the 1billion US Dollars will be an investment from the bank which do not require counter fund from Zamfara State but that the state will only provide an enabling environment for investors.
This, he stressed will soon change Zamfara State to an enviable economically developed role model in Nigeria and Africa.
In, his remarks the President of the Bank, Dr. Benedict Okey Oroma said his bank became very interested in investing in the economy of the State because of the clear and renewed economic vision of the Government.
He added that after a serious discussion with officials of Zamfara State Government, the bank agreed to sign the MoU of 1billion US Dollars for investment in the major economic areas of the state.
He promised for a very good economic investment that will uplift the state’s economic status globally and create more wealth and social security to the people of the state and beyond.
Those who attended the signing ceremony from Zamfara State Include, the Hon. Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Nasiru Maazu Magarya, Former Finance Minister and Honorary Adviser to the governor, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda Gusau, Permanent Secretaries, Office of the State Executive Governor, Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Kabiru Balarabe, Barr Ahmed Liman and Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gayari respectively.
Others include, Dr Abdullahi Sani Shinkafi (Wanban Shinkafi), Dr. Ibrahim Maiwada mni and Chairman of the state House of Assembly Committee on information,Hon Shamsudeen Hassan T/Mafara.
Those from the bank include the Chairman Heritage Bank Ltd, Mr Jani Ibrahim, GMD Heritage Bank Mr. Ifie Sekibo and Mr Chris Oshiafi.
