HIV spread and pregnancy abortions among teenage students

HIV spread and pregnancy abortions among teenage students

I wanted to write on totally a different matter today, then come this very important issue. A medical doctor friend here (name withheld) working with a Federal Medical Centre in one of the northwestern states yesterday wrote on an incessant abortion request from ladies studying in the higher institutions of the city he works. He expressed worries that he frequently get requests from students for pregnancy abortions in both the FMC and the private hospitals he work, and most of these girls are locals. They are mostly teenage higher institution students allegedly impregnated by either their student friends, lecturers or customers.
To him, his major concern is that he can’t violate his medical oath to abort pregnancies. The dangers he sees every now and then made him to call on parents to at least, marry off their daughters before sending them to higher institutions. I am with him in this sense, but I’d need to widen the scope. It is beyond pregnancies. The girls are widely spreading HIV among men, and subsequently to their innocent husbands when they eventually marry. This is known to most of us, that most of these girls in higher institutions are prostitutes. They use clothes, shoes and perfumes their parents cannot afford. And sadly, their parents never care to find out how they own what they use. Some of them offer sex in exchange for academic favours, and some are loyal to their boyfriends; they open legs at every simple knock – especially when they’d learn something or copy from them during exams.
Around April last year, I met a teenage university student in Zaria who was impregnated by her boyfriend. She usually come out to school together with her father, but she find her way to escape the father, visit her boyfriend every morning for morning sex before she go to school. She does same everyday before going back home from school. This girl was just 19 years last year. As a result, she got pregnancy and the boyfriend slapped her severally that he was not the only person doing it with her. He took her to a clinic for abortion which made her weak that she couldn’t go to school then. With all that, her parents didn’t know anything. The girl was wearing her full veils or Hijabs and dressing decently to school. She revealed to me that even though she met some of the men having unprotected sex with her on Facebook (became they pay her), she met that particular one that impregnated her in the university during her registration when he assisted her.
I read last week that a professor in one of the southwest states universities impregnated a sixteen (16) year old 100L student. The over 50 years old professor has been having unprotected sex with the young girl not long after he sighted her as a fresh student in the school. He took her severally from her hostel to a guesthouse where she spent many nights with him. The matter got out of hand when she started bleeding uncontrollably, which attracted the attention of other girls in her hostel to inform the security. The matter is still under investigation.
Just last week again, DailyTrust Newspaper reported another sex scandals happening in ABU Zaria. They specifically emphasized on the most recent where a HIV & Hepatitis positive lecturer had sex with, and infected a female 100L student with HIV. So, my point of emphasis on the friend Doctor’s point is more on unprotected sex the girls have been having with either their lecturers or customers and the way they are helping in spreading HIV among innocent people, especially their husbands when they eventually marry. No doubt, most of these girls do not care if you use protection or not so far you will settle their demands.
About six years ago, a close friend wanted to marry a girl he met at university. They’ve then reached all agreements between his representatives and her parents. Then suddenly, her mother came and insisted they must have HIV test. He asked for my consent, and I told him is good to do that because I know he is innocent and clean. But I was a bit worried on why such suspicion came up from the mother! The mother chose the hospital to do the test herself, and they went. The result was surprising. He was negative and her 21 year old 300L daughter was tested positive. He called to inform me while they were still together at the hospital and I told him to do “Sujood Shukr” to thank God in their presence. So he did. But he was shocked. I was also flabbergasted. Her mother almost fainted.
We later discovered while staying in the university hostel, some men have been taking the young girl out in different exotic cars and retuning her back at night. She was using big phones her parent couldn’t afford and they never cared to find out how she got her life desires. I don’t know if she is still alive or dead. But he has since married an innocent girl and is blessed with children. Those with HIV/AIDS are out and ready to spend any amount to spread it. Their main targets are higher institutions girls, teenage girls and home-based prostitutes – and they get them whenever they wish because the girls so much like money and luxury.
While in my undergraduate studies, I know a girl that was sending money to her parents instead of them sending to her. I also know in one higher institution in Zaria two sisters both infected with HIV. The younger is dead, but even last year I saw the other one who has continued her B.Ed studies after NCE. Those of us that grew up in Gyallesu can tell more of how male and female students share rooms in the homes they rent outside schools, and how their lecturers, friends and customers come to stay with them in their rented apartments. These young girls later graduate and marry innocent men or the men graduate to go and marry innocent girls.
The bottom-line here is, parents actually don’t know what their daughters are doing in higher institutions. Some are aware, but all they care about is the certificate the girls would bring home. You would see a very young girl with about 3-5 abortions without the knowledge of her parent. As their campus friendships and relationships get serious, they never care to use protection and they engage in rampant and wild sex life. This is contributing significantly to the widespread of HIV/AIDS among people. This is not happening to only girls staying on campuses, even some of those going from their parents houses do meet their customers before coming back home, and many even go out to meet them in the name of going to schools.
But my call is, no matter what, HIV and Hepatitis tests must be conducted on all partners before wedding. I know of many mosques that do not officiate any wedding without medical screening certificates. This should be the rule to protect innocents from marrying sluts and promiscuous men from marrying innocent partners. Not only certificates, every mosque should have health screening committee to oversee that and take the intending couples to the hospitals of the mosque’s choice for tests.
As to parents, stop pushing your daughters hard to bring certificates at all costs. Some have opened legs to their lecturers because of your pressure on them not to fail. At least, there’s life after educational qualifications. Many have acquired degrees but are living miserable lives. Having qualifications is not everything – think of live here and hereafter. Many have turned prostitutes to survive studies because you starve them of funds. If you must send them to schools, take care of all their demands including good feeding, transportation, clothing and even recharge cards. Some have opened legs for ordinary N1000 to top up mobile internet data. Don’t allow them to beg their boyfriends or become prostitutes to survive studies.
May Allah continue to protect us. Amin.
