Jigawa vows to implement Procurement Law to enhance accountability

Determined to promote prudence and accountability, the Jigawa state government during the week, organized a 3-day capacity building workshop for procurement officers in the state.
Head of the Civil Service of the state, Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila while declaring open the 3 Day training workshop on revised Jigawa State Procurement Law and Guidelines for Procurement officers in Dutse, maintained that the time has come for all stakeholders to make accountability the watchword in the state.
“I am glad to notify participants that the state government attaches great importance to prudence and value for money, which have now become the watchword of the Public Service in the State”, Kila said, explaining that training and retraining of public Servants will definitely enhance productivity in managing the affairs of the state.
He remarked: “Your participation and active contribution is therefore of paramount importance. We thank the management and staff of the Jigawa State Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau for their effort in making the workshop a reality”.
Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila explained further that the workshop was designed to develop capacity for procurement officers deployed to various MDAs, entrench professionalism and ensure that public procurement decisions by procurement officers are in line with the revised Jigawa State Procurement Law and Guidelines.
Earlier, the Director General of the jigawa state Due Process and Projects Monitoring Bureau, Alhaji Ado Hussaini said Jigawa stated is among the very few states in the country that has revised the Procurement Law in Line with UNCITRAL model, procurement which has since been inaugurated.
Another objective of the workshop he said, “is to improve the knowledge of the participants on the provision of the revised Law no 13 of 2019, guidelines and procurement manual, thereby enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of the system”.
In his remarks, the Project Coordinator, State and Local Government Reform Project (SLOGOR), Engineer Abba Hassan said the Project is being funded by European Union (EU) but implemented and managed by the World Bank in the state.
He explained that as one of the reform projects in Nigeria, its project development objective was to improve quality, transparency and accountability in public financial management of the participating states. He listed the participating states to include Osun, Anambra, Cross River, Kano and Yobe.
