Latest: Court grants Sowore bail, gives reason
An Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday granted co-convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore bail.
The Justice Taiwo Taiwo-led court said there was no longer a subsisting order holding Sowore in detention, hence the need to grant him bail.
Justice Taiwo, however, ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport to the court while releasing him to his lawyer, Femi Falana.
Sowore had allegedly called for a revolution over the supposed failure of the current Federal Government.
Following the call for revolution, the Department of State Services, DSS, had arrested the AAC 2019 presidential candidate.
Despite Sowore’s arrest, the protest was held in pockets of locations.
DESERT HERALD reports that in view of the stand and position of the Buhari administration regarding the matter even though this paper learnt from credible insiders that a secret truce with Mr. Sowore is ongoing with the FG, it remains to be seen if the APC led federal government will obey the order of the court. Reports reaching this paper indicates that the DSS is set to re-arraign Mr. Sowore again on charges of treason and money laundering which again shows it is highly unlikely for the activist to be release soon.
And if the experiences of Col Sambo Dasuki, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky etc is anything to go by, the legal team of Mr. Sowore will have to do more to ensure that court orders are obeyed.
