 Re: Ganduje’s House of Commotion Apology/Retraction

The attention of the Chairman/Publisher of DESERT HERALD, Mallam Tukur Mamu was drawn about the content of the above titled story on His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and some members of his family.

After the publisher’s directives to the Editors to review the content of the said story the following realities and shortcomings were found:-

a) It has failed to meet the standards of DESERT HERALD’s policy of avoiding ANY issue(s) that has to do with personal, private lives of persons or their families;

b) The Two Reporters have failed in reaching out to the persons involved for their responses while the Editor has either ignored or overlooked the basic necessity of balance reporting before approving the contents for publication;

c) The said report is no doubt injurious to the hard earned reputation and credibility of His Excellency Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Her Excellency Dr Hafsat Abdullahi Ganduje and in fact all those that were mentioned in that story.

In view of the above shortcomings which is not intentional and was NOT influenced by anybody, the Publisher has instructed that we tender retraction of the said story and an unreserved apology to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife and the members of his entire family for any pain they might have suffered as a result of that story. He has also directed that the said story be removed immediately from our popular website @ www.desertherald.com. The affected staffs were also queried and will be appropriately sanctioned where there is justification of doing so.

DESERT HERALD Publisher maintains a cordial relationship with Governor Ganduje and so many other Governors and has so much respect for him. He has assured Governor Ganduje that DESERT HERALD will continue to be fair in its reports as usual and that the paper has nothing personal against him or members of his family. The records of DESERT HERALD in reporting happenings in Kano State particularly on the policies and programs of the government is very clear and well documented both in our print newspaper and on www.desertherald.com.

Acting Editor
