Yobe Assembly elects new Speaker, Deputy
The 24 members of Yobe State House of Assembly have elected a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Hon Ahmed Lawan Mirwa emerged Speaker while Hon Auwalu Isa Bello became Deputy Speaker of the seventh Assembly in the state.
This paper learned that new speaker, Mirwa, represents Nguru II in the House, while the deputy Bello represents Mamudo, in Potiskum Local Government constituencies, both under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Clerk of the House, Ishaiku Mohammed, confirmed the presence of all 24 members of the house before conducting the election, he added that the election was conducted in the premises of the State House of Assembly.
According to the Clerk, “Having conducted the roll call and the number had formed a quorum, the election was peacefully conducted. ”
Mirwa emerged unopposed following his nomination by a member representing Damaturu constituency, Hon Buba kalallawa, and seconded by Honourable Ishaku Audu. Member Fika state constituency at the first plenary of the 7th Assembly.
Having announced for three times for further nomination without a response from the members of the House, the Clerk, Ishaku Mohammed declared Mirwa as duly elected Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly.
Similarly, the motion for the nomination of Auwal Isa Bello, was moved by Honourable Bulama Bukar, member representing Gujba constituency, and was seconded by Ahmed Musa Dumbulwa of Yunusari constituency.
Speaker and Deputy speaker were sworn in the House of Assembly after both accepted the nomination and promised to work in the interest of the party and the entire the good people of the state.
