2023: Nigerians Indicts NNPC As Sylva Waste N100m On Presidential Form …Why NNPC Is The Most Corrupt Government Agency

It is no longer news that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr. Timipre Sylva has shamelessly joined the likes of Abubakar Malami and Chris Ngege in withdrawing their intent to contest in 2023 primarily because of the lust and love to remain in their lucrative offices.

Considering how the NNPC under his exclusive watch is being corruptly managed with him as one of the major beneficiaries, pundits argued that the option of resignation as a condition to contest for the Presidency will be resisted by Mr. Sylva especially under a President that has promoted and tolerated impunity and corruption in his cabinet.
Insiders believe that the rather unbelievable discovery and report of diverting over N80 billion by the current Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, and his recent arrest by the EFCC will be a child’s play if the books of the NNPC under Mr. Sylva and other management team of the Corporation will be subjected to thorough scrutiny. They said Mr. Sylva assumed the office of the Minister of State when he has gone into total bankruptcy but is now among richest Nigerians.

DESERT HERALD reports that the NNPC under Mr. Sylva has never been that corrupt with the Corporation giving questionable statistics about the actual amount of crude oil being exported while refining of crude oil for local consumption as a result of the failure to resuscitate virtually all the four nation’s refineries despite wasting billions of dollars has been a major conduit-pipe where top officials of the NNPC including the minister are being accused of making billions of naira each day. Perhaps that explains the reason why Mr. Sylva too had to backtrack about his earlier decision to contest the presidency after the ultimatum of resignation was lately given by the lacklustre president. Inside sources at the NNPC told this paper that Sylva will never accept the gamble of leaving his lucrative office if the option as the law demands will be for him to resign. Sylva had been so powerful and is believed to be among the top richest Nigerians within the short period he had been in office as a de-facto Minister of Petroleum as well as the Minister of State of the same Ministry. Mr. Buhari as the ceremonial Minister of Petroleum clearly doesn’t have time to supervise the massive scandals at the NNPC. NNPC in the opinion of many credible insiders had under Mr. Buhari and Sylva remains the most corrupt government agency in Nigeria that demonstrates transparency and accountability only on paper by offering fraudulent statistics.

Nigerians continues to lament why President Buhari allow ministers

or any other appointee to backtrack and insist on retaining position in the cabinet after they have earlier indicated interest to contest and even went further to purchase party nomination forms. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Femi Falana has described the withdrawal of resignation letters by Timipre Sylva, Abubakar Malami and Chris Ngige as illegal and gross contravention of the stipulated law.

For Sylva and as the de-facto head of the NNPC, the sum of N100 million he wasted in buying the APC presidential nomination form in a country where majority cannot feed themselves twice in a day, in a country that has the largest record of out of school children and a collapsed health care system, the N100 million he wasted is like N100.00 (one hundred naira). If Sylva being so bankrupt before he was appointed by Mr. Buhari can afford a whooping N100 million in an administration that promises zero tolerance for corruption, it goes to show how much he is now worth.
