Presidency attacks Amnesty International for ‘supporting’ regime change in Nigeria
Tweeting via its official twitter handle @NGRPresident the Presidency said it has absolutely no difficulty with Amnesty International and no objections to the work they do in line with their stated mandate but asked if the organisation had any defence in support for their promotion of tweets that made a call for the overthrow of the Nigerian constitution.
The Government of Nigeria has absolutely no difficulty with @amnesty, and no objections to the work that they do in line with their stated mandate. But does @AmnestyNigeria have any defence for their promotion of tweets that call for the overthrow of the Nigerian constitution?
However quite a number of Nigerians in stern reaction to the tweet, defended the organization saying whoever tweeted the post was the daftest person in the world asking when the call for a better Nigeria became treasonous, calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police from his post.
A notable human rights advocate, ’Segun Awosanya (SEGA) who was a formidable force behind the #ENDSARS campaign following repeated brutalisation of innocent Nigerians noted that the attack was a supreme disgrace, asking what constitution the presidency was even talking about, saying the truth is their enemy as they want us all to be as stupid as the person behind the handle.
