Bogoro LGA Signs Bye-Law Against Open Defecation

Bogoro LGA signs bye-law against open defecation. This was disclosed by local council’s Head of Administration, Alh. Abba Isah Salihu, during a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday.
Alh. Abba Isah Salihu said the new Bye-law provides that those who break the rules will pay Five thousand Naira as penalties. He urged members of the public to obey the law in their own interests to avoid being punished.
The UNICEF Consultant, Mrs. Blessing Geoffrey, stated that the federal government has set 2025 as national target for attaining the open defecation free standard. She then thanked stakeholders for their contributions for the success of Open Defecation Free, ODF.
She revealed that Bogoro LGA is the first LGA to become ODF at first attempt and the first LGA to have the highest number of smart toilet facilities in Nigeria.
The Consultant noted that “UNICEF and the federal government are okay with the performance of your LGA in terms of follow up, sanitation exercise and partnership within the framework of UNICEF framework of collective action.”
Speaking on behalf of religious leaders, the Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Father Vincent Bature, promised to support and give the needed attention to the sustainability of open defecation free in Bogoro LGA.
He assured the stakeholders that all church leaders have been instructed to provide Male and female toilets facilities within their places of worship.
In a vote of thanks the Village Head of Lusa, Mr. Dauda Zabas, calls for the improvement of toilets in houses, churches, mosques, schools and market places.
He charged the people to always avoid defecating in the open so that they and their families will remain hale and hearty.
