Latest: Intrigues as Kano Assembly Speaker, Majority Leader ‘Resigns’

In what insiders described as the political intrigues ahead of 2023, the Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa has resigned from his position.

This paper can also confirm that the Majority Leader of the House, Kabiru Hassan Dashi have resigned but no reason was given for his resignation. DESERT HERALD gathered that in a bid to force them to resign sufficient evidence of abuse of office and corrupt enrichment was obtained by the Ganduje administration.

The two principal officers were therefore left with the option of ‘voluntary resignation’ or they will be impeached and be prosecuted for failure to comply. It was gathered that the Speaker and the Majority Leader opted for the later hence their surprise resignation late Monday evening.

However, in a letter obtained by this paper, Mr Gafasa said his resignation was based on personal grounds. Since the resignation was prearranged according to a credible insider, the Speaker’s letter to that effect was immediately accepted by the House which many criticised as rubber stamp legislators.

A member of the House, Mr Salisu said “The speaker resigned on his own personal reason according to his resignation letter sent to the 9th Assembly platform at 1:08am while the majority leader did not give reason for his resignation” .
