Shiites: Ango Abdullahi accuses FG, says they have zero tolerance to rule of law
Speaking to this reporter, the Elder statesman said it was worrisome that the federal government has been applying the rule of law differently to different individuals in the country.
He warned that such action could affect the country’s democracy, adding that “no nation will survive without rule of law”.
“In Nigeria, there are different rule of law for some Nigerians. The government chooses which to obey and which not to. Rule of law is now nominal in the country and no country survives without rule of law,” said Ango Abdullahi.
Abdullahi also described the proscription of the Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky led Shiites group by the Federal Government as “illegal and will not stand.”
He stated that “Sheik El- Zakzaky has been treated unfairly, unjustly and unconstitutionally. No way will that proscription stand in a constitutional democracy, and so that proscription is illegal because they cannot be denied the right to freedom of worship and freedom of association”.
He expresses worries that nothing has changed in Nigeria from 2015 to date, declaring as unfortunate that 60 years into the country’s independence, there was nothing to show for Nigeria’s nationhood adding, ” No road, no electricity and no infrastructural development in Nigeria ever since”.
The Elder-statesman also identified the elite class as the problem of the country, arguing that unless “they come together to resolve it, we may go our separate ways soon”.
