Unprecedented insecurity in Nigeria: Abuja is now NOT safe
By DESERT HERALD
Where are we heading to? The crisis of insecurity in Nigeria is unprecedented. There shouldn’t be any politics about it. Certainly, government is not only failing but living in self denial which was why the issue of security is becoming a worsening imbroglio. Even if it were in African countries, ALL the security chiefs across board should have resigned with immediate effect for what happened yesterday in Abuja. The President shouldn’t be told to immediately do the needful particularly when innocent human lives are at stake. The corruption in ALL the security agencies is UNPRECEDENTED in our nation’s history but yet saying it for even corrective measures and with the best of intentions is being considered an opposition to the seating government.
What happened in the nation’s capital, Abuja within a single day (yesterday) is to say the least a national embarrassment and a tragedy too much to comprehend. And yet nobody will bear the consequences. The Abuja-Kaduna road is now not motorable not because of its poor condition but because the Government has failed to secure it despite repeated assurances and guarantees. What a shame! Even Army Generals with armed escorts are today afraid to use the Abuja-Kaduna road by car. Shamelessly, they are part of the hundreds of passengers that used to patronised the overused train. What an indictment! What a country! And still Government always talk of achievement(s). What kind of achievements will ANY government in the world be proud of if it fails beyond all reasonable doubts to secure the lives, property and dignity of its citizens virtually everywhere including in the capital city?
The FCT is under siege, citizens should be warned as everybody is on his own today. Whenever there is kidnapping, victims must initiate negotiation or risk their lives. Apprehending kidnappers from time to time without addressing the rut cause CAN NEVER solve the crisis. Poverty and unemployment, the gasp between the rich and the poor can provoke many to go into criminality.
Investing hugely in human development, human empowerment should have been an EMERGENCY in Nigeria today. Building roads or ANY other thing considering the situation of Nigeria today should be a second priority.
DESERT HERALD has confirmed that 6 persons have been kidnapped within the capital city just yesterday, 14th September, 2019. They include a lecturer with Base University who was kidnapped in broad day light, two teenagers returning from Islamiyyah school at 6pm in Wuse Zone 6 and one Mrs Hannah Azuibuike who was kidnapped at about 8.30 pm same day near Habiba Plaza in a supposedly highly secured area of Maitama. Also, within the same day, the innocent young daughter of Dr. Umar Hardo, a PDP stalwart and former Guber candidate in Adamawa, Ummi Umar Hardo was kidnapped at 7:45pm outside Blickers Super Market in another ‘secured’ and government reserved area in Asokoro. How can one explain such a shame?
In as much as we are with government as a news medium and we continue to contribute in whatever way for them to succeed, such FAILURE is unacceptable, provocative, incitement, insensitive and an indictment. REAL action MUST be taken NOW before it is too late for all of us including those that are enjoying the Government.
Relocating children or other family members abroad will NEVER be the solution or cannot stop you from becoming a victim. We are in Nigeria when a whole former CDS Alex Badeh, who is also obviously part of the beneficiaries of looting billions meant for security was murdered like an animal and nothing happens. Who told you and what guarantee do you have that you or your family members won’t be victims tomorrow? Allah has special ways of punishing even those that feels completely secured today.
