Yari Bemoaned Out of school Children in Zamfara
By Umar Farouq, Gusau.
Former Governor of Zamfara State and now a senator representing Zamfara West, Alhaji Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari have expressed dismay over the out of school children roaming the streets aimlessly in the state.
The senator said that no society can treat the issue of education with a mere wave of hand, adding that nobody can exactly say how many out of school children are roaming the streets begging for alms.
Fielding questions from newsmen at his Talata Mafara country home, Senator Yari explained that he has constituted committees that will collect the data of all the out of school children.
Yari further stated that the committees he constituted have nothing to do with politics, saying that he intends to reduce the number of out of school children in the state.
According to him, local government authorities do not know the exact number of out of school children in their localities, where they come from and the reason of being out of school.
The data collection of out of school children have become so imperative so that the number of out of school children can be ascertained.
“Nobody can offer to assist without knowing the exact number of out of school children, because it looks immertirial for someone to be assisting blindly”, he added.
Speaking further, the former governor said that the committees he constituted will go round and collect the data of all the out of school children so that they will know where to assist.
“Some people may be out of school due to other reasons and not on financial basis. Some may leave their education due to martial purpose while others do so for other reasons”, he said.
“Sponsoring out of school children is not the only solution, but the way out, saying that the children need to be adequately taken care of and more schools need to be built and the dilapidated ones need to be renovated”, he informed.
“The issue of out of school children has become so worrisome, perplexing and embarrassing which all hands must be on desk to correct the impasses, therefore, we need to act”, he affirmed.
According to him, the issue should not be left only in the shoulders of State Government, calling on wealthy individuals to contribute towards bringing back the out of school to the school.
